Polymeric Rubber is a Comfortable, Shock-Resistant Sports Surface.These two-layered polymeric rubber sports surface systems provide a comfortable, shock-Resistant Sports Surface as well as being a multi sport surface for schools.Polymeric systems conform to performance standards for most sports where safety and comfort are prioritised.

Technically speaking, they are made up of a synthetic base of styrene-butadiene rubber, usually laid by the machine to a 10mm thickness. Sprayed onto this is a 2-3mm wearing coat of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) mixed with a polyurethane binder.

This creates a surface with a high degree of shock absorbency and high slip-resistance sports flooring .

Synthetic clay is mostly used as a tennis sports surface and it rivals natural clay. The outdoor sports court surface is a popular alternative for tennis courts in the UK. The main advantage being its porosity for our climate, whilst still requiring little maintenance along with the added durability of the surface. Artificial clay courts use a synthetic carpet with a layer of sand infill and achieve the playing characteristics almost identical to real clay surfaces in terms of ball bounce, pace and slide. In wet weather, unlike natural clay-courts they are completely permeable, so rain-water drains through the surface to allow play to resume quickly after a period of rain.Natural clay also requires the surface to be brushed after every match, but with synthetic clay they only need brushing once a day and so no additional maintenance is generally required.This call can be used and a number of sports but the most popular is tennis.

Macadam Surfacing is a all round great sports playing surface with its smooth surface, predictable bounce, has a improved porosity and is a durable sports surface.Depending on usage and maintenance levels, macadam resurfacing will give your courts a further 10 to 15 years of life. You should expect a smooth new sports playing surface that delivers a predictable bounce and improved porosity – a brand new sports facility without the cost of a rebuild.In most cases, the new macadam will adhere to the existing surface if a bitumen emulsion tack coat is used and rolled to a consolidated depth of 25-30mm. The edge of the court surface can be feathered down gradually to the level of the existing kerbs. Or, if required, a new kerb edging can be set at the new level.On top of the great features the Macadam sports surfaces is mostly used in MUGAs as a perfect MUGA surface.

Post sockets will be raised appropriately to maintain the correct net height, either using extension pieces or new sockets. Finishing touches like line marking or full acrylic colour spraying can be applied when the macadam has cured, typically a minimum of three weeks after application. Temporary lines can be applied in the interim. Porous macadam provides a hard-wearing, durable, free-draining playing surface. It also requires the least maintenance of all of the surfaces available.

There is a continuum along which the degree of porosity passes using the products available in this country. This passes from open graded to medium grade, from medium grade to dense. The closer the grade comes to dense, the more durable the surface will be. The trade-off here for sport is that as your surface becomes more durable by using a close graded or dense macadam, and the porosity is reduced. This equals standing water and more downtime of use. I think it was Hamlet who posed the question ‘Longevity vs. Porosity, that is the question’ – or maybe that was someone else.

With more and more sports being played on synthetic grass and manufacturers managing to recreate real grass for tennis, football and rugby, the days of exaggerated ball bounce and the need for body protection are long gone. As part of our recommendation, we will take into account factors like pile length, infill and yarn type. Maintenance requirements must also be considered when selecting a synthetic grass surface – they are far from maintenance-free, as first suggested.

The outdoor sports surface, synthetic grass acts as a ballast and gives weight to the pile, but it also acts as a filtering system for detritus falling from the air and surrounding vegetation. The infill can also become compacted if it’s not properly maintained, blocking porosity and affecting all aspects of the surface like bounce, ball roll and speed. With effective maintenance and housekeeping though, the surface can be a good investment and provide years of enjoyable and quality use.
